Acer Brings Laser to Gaming

Acer showed off an ultra-short throw laser DLP projector for gaming at CES 2016, where the product – the Predator Z850 – was named as an Innovation Award Honoree. Acer is now bringing it to market.

The Z850 can throw up to 120″ images from 0.46m, and has an ultra-wide resolution of 1920 x 720 (24:9). It reaches 3,000 lumens of brightness and the laser will last for up to 30,000 hours. Acer’s ColorBoost3D and ColorSafe II features raised colour gamut coverage (although Acer did not specify a percentage, or indeed what gamut was being covered – we imagine sRGB) and lower ‘colour decay’.

HDMI (x2) and VGA ports are featured. Acer says that the projector is ‘mirror-less’ – we have contacted the firm to find out more.

Although Acer says that the projector is on sale in the USA now ($5,000), no more detailed specifications were available at press time.
