Kongsberg Geospatial announced today that it has partnered with Avalon Holographics to develop a holographic sonar display for submarine warfare in a project funded by Canadian Defence authorities. The system will show data from passive sonar tracking.

What We Think
Avalon seems to break the rule that ‘any display described as holographic, never is’ as it’s display is claimed to be truly holographic. It makes a lot of sense to have a display with a real sense of depth (sorry!) in this application. We contacted the company about a deeper dive into its technology, but it didn’t seem interested at the moment. Perhaps it has something new coming along. (BR)
