Dell Boosts Laptop Graphics Performance

A new product, designed to increase laptop framerates, is accompanying Dell’s Alienware 13 laptop on its European launch.

Announced for the North America market in August, the Alienware 13 is a 13.3″ gaming device that is almost 40% thinner than the preceding Alienware 14, at 26.3mm. The chassis is constructed from carbon fibre, keeping weight to just above 2kg.

For gamers, the keyboard is reinforced with metal, with backlit tactile keys and six programmable keys. Dell’s Command Centre 4.0 software is included, which can be used to control various settings including lighting, video card performance, GPU and memory clocks and power.

Three different configurations are available, with 1366 x 768, 1920 x 1080 or 2560 x 1440 resolution; the latter two use IPS panels. Windows 8.1 runs on a 2.7GHz Core i5 Haswell processor, with 8GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. An SSD, up to 512GB, can be added as an option. Mini-DisplayPort, HDMI, USB 3.0 (x2) and RJ45 ports are featured.
