Samsung has said that it will commercalise 60GHz wireless products next year. Data transmission speeds are as much as five times faster than today’s Wi-Fi (4.6Gbps). A 1GB film can be transferred in ‘less than three seconds’.

Samsung implied that the technology, based on the 802.11ad standard, was new and developed in-house. However, the company has been involved with the WiGig standard since at least 2009 (Display Monitor Vol 16 No 19). We are checking this with Samsung but had not had a response at press time. (TA)
