Apple to lose 6 Million iPhone 14 Pros

What They Say

Bloomberg quoted “a person familiar with assembly operations” as saying that Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro shipments could fall short by 6 million units after the disruption in Zhengzhou, China that we reported last week (Foxconn Chinese iPhone Plant in Unrest Breakout). The shortfall is expected to be made up in 2023. The report said that as many as 20,000 new hires may have left after the protests.

The FT reported last week that Foxconn has offer up to $1,400 to newly recruited staff who wanted to leave to cover quarantining, transport and hours worked – said to be equivalent to one to two month’s wages. That eased the unhappiness, but will have done little to help with getting more production.

Bloomberg also said that Foxconn is offering $1800 bonuses to existing staff in December and January for workers that joined before November.

What We Think

China’s national PR operation must be in overdrive at the moment, with widespread reported unrest and protests over the weekend adding to the damage of the country’s reputation as the ‘factory of the world’.

Delivery dates here in the UK remain after Christmas for the iPhone 14 Pro. (BR)
