What They Say
As it completes its sale to a private equity firm, Providence Equity Partners, Airties has appointed Tony Ball, former chairman of Kabel Deutschland and CEO of BSkyB, as Chairman of the board.
Philippe Alcaras will continue to serve as CEO of Airties. Airties also confirmed that its corporate headquarters is moving to Paris to support its global expansion plans.
What We Think
Airties is on the edge of our area (or probably off it) but when I was doing more work on TV and STBs in Europe, I used to meet the firm regularly at shows such as IBC and it was always a positive experience. The founder Bülent Çelebi was very open about technology and market developments and the company had a very international approach for a firm from Turkey. It also often had a very forward looking technical approach – we got information from the firm on its mesh Wi-Fi technology at IBC in 2009 when it was still quite a new company. (BR)
