HB Solution secures Kateeva’s QD-OLED inkjet patents as collateral

What They Say

The Elec reported that HB Solutions of Korea has invested in inkjet printer maker, Kateeva, and is securing this investment with rights over a number of Kateeva patents. HB Solution was expected to have supplied SDC with QD conversion layer printing equipment for SDC’s QD-OLED production line. The equipment would have been built by Kateeva and installed and delivered by HB Solutions. However, the Elec reports that this order has been delayed and is now expected to be placed early next month.

The Elec reported that earlier equipment was provided by Semes of Korea (Samsung Display to use inkjet kit from Kateeva for QD-OLED production), a Samsung subsidiary, but that this equipment had ‘underperformed and so SDC has agreed a conditional purchase of Kateeva’s equipment which is dependent on the performance meeting agreed standards.

What We Think

This story has been going on a long time. I’ve recently been going through the papers on EL-QDs from SID and pretty well all of them talk of IJP as being the way to go forward with this technology, so being the best supplier of that equipment could be a good position if the technology develops. In a story that sounds depressingly familiar, blue lifetimes in EL-QD are still a long way from good enough. (BR)
