Sony & Samsung QD-OLED Reviewed

What They Say

Vincent Teoh of HDTVTest has had a look at the Sony A95K Master series TV, which, like the Samsung S95B, uses a QD OLED panel. He goes through a number of reasons why the Sony is better than the Samsung set, which has slightly higher peak brightness. The Sony set includes a metal heat sink, not included in the Samsung, which allows it to maintain images for much longer when the Samsung cuts them back in brightness.

Although the set has less accurate low black tracking than WOLED displays, the set has better performance on saturated bright areas. After calibration, colour accuracy is very good. Teoh also likes the motion performance although he finds a little over-sharpening on some content.

What We Think

As usual, there’s more to the set than the choice of panel, but the differences are fairly small. In the UK, the Sony sells for around 16% more than the Samsung 65″ (£2,999 or the equivalent of $3,070 + tax, just above the Best Buy US price of $2,799). BR)
