What They Say
Idemitsu issued a press release highlighting that it has a new blue fluorescent emitter system for OLEDs that is claimed to have achieved an EQE of 14% (at current density of 10 mA/cm2), a lifetime of over 400 hours (LT95 @ 50 mA/cm2) and a color point of (0.14,0.08), based on a tandem structure.
Details were presented at Display Week and the paper received an SID “Distinguished Paper Award”. The paper can be accessed here.
What We Think
DSCC showed this data at the end of 2021 on its blog. It shows Idemitsu’s business as around $175 million in 2021, in third place behind UDC and just behind Merck. The firm is the supplier of Blue prime materials to Samsung for its M11 material stack.
I had a look at the paper. I’m not a chemist, but a key point is that the tandem blue layers are different, not simply replicas. They have different triplet energies and the emitting zone in the EML is dispersed, leading to longer life. (BR)
