What They Say
Magnachips said that it has a new DDIC for OLED TVs, adding to its OLED support after the company introduced chips for smartphones. (Magnachip Enters Full-Scale Mass Production of High Frame Rate OLED DDIC for 5G Smartphones with QHD Displays) The new chips are in ‘full scale mass production’
The DDCI is packaged in a COF configuration with a high speed interface for support of displays up to UltraHD and panels from 40″ to 80″. It has a maximum of 960 source output channels.
Magnachip said that it would also develop drivers for IT and automotive applications.
According to Omdia, a global market research firm, the compound annual growth rate of global OLED TV panel shipments is forecast to grow 14% from 7.4 million units in 2021 to 12.7 million units in 2025, the firm said.
What We Think
In its financial results for 2021, the firm said that supply chain constraints are still limiting its potential growth in OLED drivers, although this was partly offset by other sectors and the results showed that its display business dropped from $299 million in 2020 to $205 million last year. In its outlook it said that it had ‘persisting supply constraints especially for 28nm 12? wafers’ (BR)
