What They Say
Broadcast Bridge reported on the increasing use of LED displays in the production of news and sports broadcasting. For example, the Opening Ceremonies for the 2022 Winter Olympics in China had “the world’s largest LED screen” performers choreographed their moves on top of a 10,552 m² LED floor made up of 40,000 LED modules to deliver resolutions beyond 8K. The writer talked to Apantac, which makes FPGA video scalers for LED walls.
An interesting point that we haven’t seen covered before is that the design and positioning of an LED wall can affect the audio in a virtual set. Apantac pointed to its FPGAs being faster at video processing than software solutions, which helps to minimise time errors for audio.
What We Think
The article makes the point that in some cases it is better to have LEDs than green screens, which are widely used in news production. (BR)
