OLED-based IdeaPad Reviewed

What They Say

Laptop Magazine reviewed the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7 Carbon notebook, which has a 14″ 2800 x 1800 OLED display that it describes as ” not only gorgeous, but (it’s) also super smooth thanks to its 90Hz refresh rate”.

The site measured P3 chromaticity coverage of 139.3% of DCI-P3 – way ahead of its ‘premium laptop average’ of 85.6%. Brightness is 369 cd/m² which is less than some (the average premium is 412 cd/m²) but the reviewer found it ‘plenty bright’. The battery test lasted 9hrs 56 mins, less than the premium average of 11 hrs 6 mins.

The notebook costs $1,189.

What We Think

At this kind of price OLEDs should do well in retail, where buyers will see the ‘pop’ of the display. I was slightly surprised to see an IdeaPad from Lenovo with an OLED, as I would have expected to see them in the ThinkPad line. The same size and resolution display as the Slim 7 Carbon, for example, is in the T14s as an option. A bit more digging turned up the IdeaPad Flex 5i 7th Gen which has a 400 cd/m² 14″ 2800 x 1800 OLED Option, although it’s not available locally at the moment. (BR)
