Trendforce Summarises TV Markets

What They Say

TrendForce put out results and a forecast for the TV market. It said that the higher prices for panels stalled the market and eventually the set market was down globally in 2021 to 210 million, down 3.2%. More stability should be seen this year and the firm expects 3.4% growth to 217 million. Smaller panels (up to 39″) will remain at 25%, 40″ to 59″ will be 55% and larger panels, which will be the focus of the big international brands be 20%.

OLED TV will grow from 6.7 million in 2021 (which was 70% growth). The firm still believes that Samsung will ‘take the OLED TV market by storm’ and may aim to build the segment to an eventual 15%.

miniLED will be more widely adopted and saw sales of 1/5 million in 2020 and 2.1 million in 2021. TrendForce thinks it will ‘race towards’ 4.5 million units.

What We Think

Nothing very contentious here. The firm is still expecting Samsung to rollout OLEDs based on WOLED, it seems, as well as QD-OLED. (BR)
