What They Say
A Chinese news outlet, Sina, quoted by Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, reports that BOE has built a prototype/demo 500Hz 27″ FullHD monitor for gaming. The LCD uses an oxide backplane and is reported to have a 1ms response time.
No details of the LC mode/mixture were given
What We Think
Of course, having a fast monitor is not enough on its own, you need a fast processor. However as 500Hz is only just above UltraHD at 120Hz in terms of bitrate, that should be possible before too long. I have previously reported that I was sceptical about the value of such speed until I saw a side by side put on by Asus of 240Hz vs 360Hz. Then again, I’m not a ‘twitch’ or any other kind of gamer, these days.
Of course, the response time of the LC mixture will also be a factor in limiting the performance, but not if such an OLED panel was available! (BR)
