What They Say
China Media Group started a new 8K TV channel to broadcast content from the Beijing Winter Olympics. The report said that Monday also saw the launch of a project to set up big screens in public places across the country. So far, four train stations along a high-speed railway linking Beijing and the co-host city of Zhangjiakou have been equipped with big 8K screens to broadcast the content produced by the CMG.
What We Think
I confess that I watched nothing of last year’s Olympics – the first time that has happened, I think. 8K wouldn’t change that for me.
The Winter Olympics is being run in Beijing based on artificial snow. Environmentalists have complained about the use of water and energy to create the snow, although authorities have said that water use is not an issue. Global warming will make it harder and harder to run the event in the future without artificial snow. (BR)
