What They Say
Futuresource Consulting said that what it defines as the professional displays market has recovered with 27% growth after a 15% year on year drop last year. The firm forecast a 2021 value of $36 billion.
Matthew Rubin, Senior Market Analyst also forecast the LED market saying:
“Our forecasts indicate a CAGR of 22.4% in the five years out to 2025. Product awareness, improved end user understanding and falling prices will all contribute to wider uptake.”
The firm also sees a boost for the kiosk market in a post-Covid world. It sees microLED succeeding eventually as costs come down.
What We Think
Futuresource, unlike DSCC, IDC and to a lesser extent, Omdia, gives away little of its data. Historically, when I researched the same markets as the firm, I sometimes found that it was ready to sweeping opinions based on relatively small samples. I regularly had this conversation.
“Why do you buy Futuresource data?”. “Because of the detail, but it’s no good”. “We can’t work out how to get that level of detail accurately without charging a lot more than the market will stand, so that level of detail is not reliable”. “But we want that level of detail”…..
That was a general comment about a lot of the services, although it was quite good in some areas such as interactive displays. (BR)
