The Korea Herald highlighted a lack of momentum from Samsung amid all the legal challenges that its top leaders have faced and after the death of Lee Kun-Hee. However, it pointed out that the smartphone and consumer electronics businesses have been trimming staff through voluntary retirement programmes.
The paper reported that Samsung might be thinking of selling its network business, possibly to Cisco.
What We Think
Well, the semiconductor shortages have helped the firm to record numbers. Samsung has tended to be, like other Korean companies, very ‘top down’ in its management. However these are executives are ‘above the cloud layer’, so probably don’t have much impact on the day to day activities of the divisions below.
