Slowdown in TV Market Driving LCD Oversupply

What They Say

Highlighting the reasons for the sharp drop in TV LCD panel pricing in recent months, DSCC quoted Digitimes which reported TV brands lowering their sales targets.

  • Samsung: from 48M TVs to 45M;
  • TCL: from 30M TVs to 25M;
  • Hisense: from 24M to 20M;
  • Sony: from 10M to 8M.

In line with the trend, DSCC has revised its supply demand calculation and expects utilisation, which has been at around 89% for a while, dropping to 85%.

What We Think

Note in the chart that input levels have been going up while panel shipments have been going down, so panel inventories will have been increasing. DSCC expects excess inventory to carry over into 2022. (BR)
