What They Say

In it’s regular mail-out, Counterpoint Research published a chart and some detailed data on the development of the global market for smartphones. The result highlights the way that they top five brands have increased their dominance over the last three years. The charts below show the impact of Xiaomi, but also highlight the relative lack of growth by Oppo and Vivo.

The firm also looked at the opportunity in Korea as LG has withdrawn. In Q2 2019, LG had 17% share that shrunk to 13% in 2020 and 11% in 2021. LG, Samsung and Apple have almost the total market. The firm expects Samsung to pick up most of the LG business, but Google and Motorola have good brand awareness, so might develop their businesses.
