What They Say
FlatpanelsHD had a chance to get a good look at the most recent version of the Samsung 110″ LED TV. The blog was impressed with the unit (“The TV is wildly impressive…”) although it found that the black levels, in the bright viewing environment, were not as good as OLED. It also found that the seams between the modules of the TV were visible, especially when the TV was viewed off-axis. It also pointed out that there is some ‘screen door effect’ when viewed relatively close up.
What We Think
When I last saw the Samsung LED TV at IFA, the seams were very visible, although among the best I have seen (perhaps bettered by Sony) but I would be very irritated if I paid this much for a TV and could see how it was put together. I loved my Panasonic PDP and was surprised at how good my OLED TV is once I got it installed, but at the moment, I wouldn’t go near one of these LEDs (even if I could afford it!), although I’m sure some will go for it. As was said when Sony launched its very expensive and very small first OLED, if you can afford to pay that for a TV, you probably don’t watch much TV.
A Bulgarian that worked for me used to say that in his country there’s a saying that “You’ve got the time or you’ve got the watch”. He was right, in my experience! (BR)
