What They Say
The Elec reported data from Omdia that forecast that the OLED material market would grow to $1.754 billion in 2021, with growth higher than in 2020, when it was 16%. A combination of
- high demand for OLED smartphones
- increases in OLED TVs
- QD OLED production and
- more OLEDs in IT applications
will drive the growth. Small sized OLEDs will take around 70% of the value of the market, up 29%. For large OLEDs, the materials will be worth $541 million, up 69%.
What We Think
The value numbers from Omdia are a bit higher than those from DSCC that we reported in February (AMOLED Materials Market Will Grow to $2.5 Billion by 2025). The earlier DSCC data showed around 57% of the market being in small displays. Looking at the numbers, DSCC had slightly more value ?$575 million, so the key difference is the value of materials in smaller displays where Omdia is more bullish. (BR)
