What They Say
Samsung held an online event to talk about its TV plans for 2021 and gave more details of the 110″ and 99″ microLED TVs which will be available at the end of March, with an 88″ in the autumn and a newly-announce 76″ that will follow that, but no date was given (or price!)
There are now five options for the 2021 Frame (which is now 24.9mm thick) and there is a ‘my Shelf’ housing to allow integration. There are new content options including a range of artworks developed with Etsy.
The Saro rotating TV has been upgraded to support Airplay 2 in both modes and TikTok will ‘soon’ be available on the Saro. There’s a new brighter 75″ Terrace outdoor TV.
The Odyssey G9 gaming monitor will this year gain a miniLED backlight while maintaining the tight 1,000mm radius of the 2020 model. The 2021 versions of the Smart Monitor released last year (Samsung Revives Smart Monitor Concept) gains support for AirPlay 2.
Samsung said that its miniLEDs are 1/40th of the size of traditional LEDs. There are improved AI upscaling features in the latest Neo QLED TVs.

What We Think
By my calculation, the 76″, assuming it is UltraHD would have 0.44mm pitch, which is very low. As we have reported before, LED pricing typically scales with the number of LEDs, rather than the area relationship we see in LCDs. As a result, unless Samsung has a dramatic cost breakthrough, the 76″ is likely to be very expensive. It will also be interesting to see if the firm can get high brightness with this kind of pitch – that has been a real challenge for most suppliers. It will need high brightness to shine against miniLED LCDs and OLEDs and to justify the pricing.
