Kuo: iPhone 13 series to feature smaller notch, 120Hz display, larger batteries, more

What They Say

An analyst with a good track record of Apple tracking, Ming-Chi Kuo, has said that the iPhone 13 series will have four models with the same display sizes as the 12 series. The displays will use LTPO and add 120Hz support as well as having a reduced notch area. He believes that Apple will stay with the Lightning connector, rather than switching to USB Type-C.

Other forecasts on the iPhone 13:

  • iPhone 13 will include a larger battery capacity compared to iPhone 12, making the devices heavier.
  • Internally, Apple is adopting new space-saving designs such as integrating the SIM card slot with the mainboard, reducing the front optical modules’ thickness, and more.
  • LiDAR still only available on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
  • Qualcomm’s 5G modem upgraded to the 5nm X60M (vs the iPhone 12’s X55M made by 7nm).

What We Think

So, no talk of a folding device, still. An earlier report from Bloomberg said that Apple is testing foldables, and is also testing an in-screen fingerprint scanner. Kuo said that an id-scanner on the power button is not in Apple’s plans at the moment. (BR)
