Samsung to apply RGB one chip tech to MicroLED TV to lower price

What They Say

The Elec reported that Samsung is working on using RGB devices to make its microLED displays rather than individual devices of each colour, which is the technology used in its Wall products, according to the report.

Other approaches included RGBRGB LEDs with six subpixels to further reduce the number of transfer operations needed. It is also said to be looking at using magnets to align modules.

What We Think

What the article doesn’t confirm is the technology being used for the creation of the sub-pixels. It seems most likely to me that blue LEDs with colour conversion is what is being worked on, but I don’t have any evidence for that. The article highlights that Samsung is mainly trying to reduce cost, which was not really news!

Samsung is reported to be working with PlayNitride and Seoul Viosys. We reported on RGB devices from Viosys just a few weeks ago (Seoul Semi & Viosys Present Micro Clean LEDs) (BR)
