What They Say
Sky in the UK has said that its Sky Q box will now allow the viewing of Netflix HDR titles. The platform already supported Sky Originals and Disney+ in HDR.
What We Think
Sky is the dominant PayTV supplier in the UK and has a strong influence. Personally, I moved away from Sky as moving to the Sky Q box meant giving up a dual box set-up which suits my TV needs better. That’s because the Sky Box uses a system of conversion of the incoming satellite signal to IP format at the LMB, so you can’t use dual tuners. That’s similar to the SES Sat>IP architecture, although I don’t know if Sky uses that technology exactly. Anyway, to get UltraHD with multiple boxes, I had to move to Virgin Media cable. That was helped by a good deal from Virgin which included 550Mpbps (on most days) internet access (a mere 125Mbps this morning!). However, it does mean dealing with Virgin’s shockingly awful customer service. (BR)
