We like the YouTube TV reviews done by Vincent Teoh on YouTube as he is a passionate believer in accuracy in testing and display performance – he is a professional calibrator.
This week, he has been in trouble because he criticised other reviewers when he looked at the latest Samsung Q9FN. The set has been winning a lot of recommendations, but Teoh found that there are significant deviations from the PQ curve in the HDR modes. This gives a very bright image, especially in high ambient conditions, but his contention is that the curve should produced as accurately as possible. Teoh highlighted the lack of accuracy compared to Sony’s TVs.
Analyst Comment
I agree with Teoh that the lack of a ‘standard’ mode is an issue on this TV (on all TVs, really). I have no objection to companies developing non-standard modes that they think look better than standard, but they should always allow the user to simply go back to standard as an option. Teoh also reproduced some measurements from other sites without permission and that was arguably not a good idea. You can catch his (non) apology here, (BR)
