Apple is reported to have bought an AR start-up called VRVana which has apparently developed an AR headset, called the Totem, but had not shipped it. Reports put the value of the deal at $30 million. At the time of writing, the VRVana website was still live and gave specifications for the headset, which was based on 1440p OLEDs and is a VR headset using cameras for gaining a view of the real world.
The company has what it calls “hardware accelerated chroma keying” that eliminates the need for external tracking or projection equipment.

Toms Hardware was very impressed with this headset when it saw it at the Immersed show in late 2016. (BR)
