Samsung Launches SeeColors App for QLED TV

Samsung SeeColors App for QLED TV main 2

Samsung has announced the launch of its SeeColors app, compatible with its entire range of QLED TVs. The app is available to download from the Smart TV app store, and from the Google Play Store and Galaxy App Store for Samsung Galaxy smartphones, from the S6 upwards.

It uses the Colorlite Test, a digital diagnosis test that uses the concept of color filters and mathematical modeling to diagnose levels of Colour Vision Deficiency (CVD). The results of the test can then be used to re-calibrate the user’s Samsung QLED TV to produce colours to correct the type and severity of CVD that they suffer from.

The SeeColors app is created in partnership with Colorlite, a Hungarian company that applies certified technology based on 20 years of scientific research to lenses to help people address CVD. The app marks the first time Colorlite has been used on TVs and smartphone devices.

Analyst Comment

We tested the app on a known “Deutan” and found that the app is pretty good at analysing the level and type of colour deficiency. We don’t have a QLED TV to try the second part of the process, unfortunately! Companies have tried addressing this issue with content processing, with the display devices and also with modified glasses. The colour vision of our guinea pig doesn’t seem to be bad enough to drive them to take any particular corrective action. (BR)
