The new Micro-LED project from Electronic and Optoelectronic System Research Laboratories (EOSRL, part of ITRI), in collaboration with PlayNitride, Macroblock and Unimicron Technology, will develop small-scale displays for VR applications, as well as large-sized digital signage displays.
The company has also revealed that the pilot line is currently achieving 2500 (50×50) chips per transfer, and by the time it is running at full capacity it will be able to turn out 100,000 chips (100×100) each time. EOSRL hopes to reach this capacity by the end of 2017, or early 2018, with the line commencing operations in the third quarter of 2018.
