Lumileds is now officially independent from Royal Philips, 80.1% of the company having been bought by Apollo Global Management, a private equity firm. (Philips To Sell Lumileds to Private Equity) The firm plans to continue to focus on lighting products based on its LED technology and has 9,000 staff in 32 countries.
Analyst Comment
We don’t normally cover lighting, but we have been covering the company since it was part of Philips in 2000. At SID in 2000, Philips used the Lumiled name for RGB backlights. I hadn’t realised that it was so long ago that we reported on RGB LED backlights, which are still not established in the market. (BR)
