Both Sony and BBC have confirmed that BBC iPlayer will be removed on 2011 Sony TVs from 16th August 2017. The only reason given was due to “performance issues”.
The BBC advised that iPlayer will be available if a device is connected to the TV that is iPlayer enabled, and this will overcome the performance issues, such as the application or TV crashing while using iPlayer.
This announcement follows a long string of similar announcements of discontinued apps on older smart TVs.
