Porsche Design has developed a new convertible notebook, the Book One, working with Microsoft and OEM maker, Quanta Computers. The unit is a convertible PC using a 7th-generation Intel Core i7-7500U processor and 16GB of RAM and Intel SSD of 512GB. The display is a 13.3″ IPS LCD with 3200 x 1800 resolution (which it calls QHD+) and 10 point touch. For external connectivity, there is a Type-C port and a Type-C with Thunderbolt as well as dual USB Type A connectors. Battery life is rated at 14 hours. There’s a 5 mp camera on the lid, but also an infrared device for Windows Hello support. The display is detachable to be used as a tablet.
The hinges on the device are said to have been ‘inspired by the transmission of a sports car’ and the casing is a made from milled aluminium.
The PC will cost $2,495 in the US and €2,695 in Europe when it launches in April.
