Toshiba Developing Despite Corporate Troubles

Toshiba is having a torrid time at the corporate level, but the professional display business seems to be steadily progressing. Toshiba has a good history in hotel TV (being, I think, the first company to put hotel TV features in all of its production TVs, some years ago). At the show, the company had its latest range, the TD-H3 series which includes 24″, 32″ (both HDReady) and Full HD 43″ and 49″ units. There are a number of unusual features including LAN control and Auto USB playback. Tuners include T2/C/S2 and the sets can be configured using USB keys or by using the LAN connection.

In digital signage, the firm has standardised its chassis designs for its 16/7 and 24/7 ranges which are available in 32″, 43″, 49″, 55″ and 65″ in Full HD and 65″ and 75″ in UltraHD. All except the 75″ are based on IPS panels. Brightness is 400 cd/m² and a brighter range will be available ‘later’. There is an E version (with a cost adder) that adds facilities including a timer and Toshiba has an API that is available to partners and users that allows control of scheduling etc using the integrated media player which can be updated via USB. The displays have 8GB of storage and have OPS slots for those needing processor power and can support Wi-Di and Miracast.

Turning to touch, Toshiba has a ten point infrared overlay that is simply connected by USB, which makes support simple as the touch system is recognised as a Windows HID. The touch panel uses toughened glass and has an aluminium frame.
