HKC is planning to build a new fab that will use G11 substrates in China to support supply for the TV industry. The plant is to be built in Kunming, according to some sources, while other sources suggest that the plant will have a 90,000 substrate per month capacity and could produce around 8.5 million panels. Investment could be as high as $5.8 billion as the company may also look at building a related TV module and set assembly facility.
Production is unlikely before 2019.
Analyst Comment
This development will mean that HKC will be the third maker to join BOE and CSOT in having large panel fabs in China.
