As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, CES ® will recognize 37 influential companies that have exhibited at CES for more than 40 years. Ten of those were at the first CES in 1967 and will again be at CES 2017 in January:3M, Lenovo, Memorex (now MEM-CE), Philips, Sharp, Sony, Toshiba, Voxx International and Westinghouse. Panasonic is the sole exhibitor to have exhibited in all 50 consecutive CES shows, and will receive special recognition onsite.
“CES has been the proving ground for innovators for 50 years and has grown from a top destination for mainly audio/video retailers and distributors to a global gathering place for the entire innovation ecosystem,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA) TM. “In addition to the traditional tech players, CES now draws from nearly every major industry. We are honored and humbled to celebrate this core group of exhibitors who have been with us from the start.”
CES also will celebrate the individuals who have attended CES for extended runs. During the registration process for 2017, attendees can self-select the number of years they have attended the show. Onsite recognition ribbons will be available in five year increments to identify how long each person has supported CES.
The first CES was held in New York City and featured 117 exhibitors and 17,500 attendees. Hot products in its first year included black-and-white TVs, transistor radios and stereos. CES now features more than 3,800 exhibitors featuring the latest in robotics, wearables, augmented and virtual reality, entertainment and content, drones and driverless technologyand attracts more than 165,000 attendees.
