With the arrival of summer, BenQ has released a DLP projector designed to be taken on camping trips. The GS1 can be linked to a smartphone via Bluetooth to play streamed content (video or just audio), and has a three hour battery life, with a replaceable battery.
Measuring 139 x 146 x 65.7mm and weighing 970g (with battery), the GS1 is a small model that can fit in a camping bag. It has a rubber case which is IPX1 (splash-proof), and can survive a 60cm fall. Throw distance is also short: the projector can throw a 30″ – 200″ image (60″ image from 1m, 0.8:1 throw ratio).
An LED light source is featured, which will power on in three seconds. BenQ has designed several picture modes for the projector, including Camping (the default, a bright mode to combat ambient light), Movie and Vivid. Auto keystone adjustment (+/-40°) is built in.
Display resolution is 1280 x 720, with 300 lumens of brightness and the ability to show 10-bit colour. Zoom is fixed. MHL-HDMI, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports are featured, with a micro-SD card slot and two 2W speakers.
The projector will be sold for £320 ($420) ex VAT. We are still waiting on the release date from BenQ.
