BOE Nears Completion of Initial Equipment Procurement for Gen8.6 OLED Production Line in Chengdu

BOE has nearly finalized the initial batch of equipment orders—including key OLED production machinery such as evaporation systems—for its new Gen8.6 OLED production line in Chengdu.

The equipment at the heart of this development is designed to enable the production of larger and more sophisticated OLED panels while reducing production costs and improving energy efficiency. Central to this approach is the incorporation of cutting-edge LTPO backplane technology. Paired with stacked emission layer processes, these innovations lower power consumption and extend the lifespan of OLED displays. The production line’s enhanced cutting efficiency will meet the growing market demand for thin, lightweight displays, particularly for mid-sized products such as high-end tablets, notebooks, and IT-related devices.

With a total investment of $9 billion, the facility is designed to process 32,000 glass substrates per month, each measuring 2290mm by 2620mm. Mass production is targeted for October 2026, with full operational capacity anticipated by 2029.

Beyond the factory’s impressive technical and historical narrative lies its broader significance: the project represents a landmark in China’s drive to become a key player in the global display industry. This Gen8.6 AMOLED production line is China’s first of its kind and the world’s second. The ripple effect will likely boost upstream and downstream industries.
