What Display Daily thinks: Let’s put aside the fact that we really don’t have a general classification of gaming on TVs. The popularity and use of streaming game applications on TVs is subject to some debate and adoption varies from region to region.
But gaming is the only premium consumer application for high-end graphics and displays. It’s a prized market worth the efforts it takes to please the fickle demographic of competitive players. Competition is the lifeblood of influencers in gaming.
What LG is doing here is spot on. The TV gamer is getting a controller that is very specific and very targeted at their needs. At least from a marketing perspective. We probably won’t know to what extent gamers have a role to play in shaping premium TV sales for a few years. But, LG seems to be coming at this with a platform mindset, obviously based on its experiences with webOS, and that’s the way it should be. Maybe LG can make a better remote than its existing anachronistic ones at some point, too.
LG Unveils Groundbreaking Bluetooth Ultra-Low Latency Technology at WebOS Summit 2024
LG Electronics announced a partnership with Razer and MediaTek to launch what it claims to be the world’s first Bluetooth Ultra-Low Latency (BT ULL) controller, at the LG webOS Summit 2024 last week. The company is looking at getting response times on LG webOS smart TVs up by significantly reducing input lag to just 1ms.
During the summit, which gathered 300 representatives from 140 partner companies across 24 countries, LG demonstrated a BT ULL-enabled Bluetooth gaming controller, which was compared to a standard controller to showcase its improved responsiveness and control precision in various cloud-based games, including first-person shooters, fighting games, and racing titles. LG plans to introduce a certification program for controllers supporting BT ULL technology. Razer will be the first company to receive this certification.
LG and MediaTek are working together to integrate BT ULL technology into MediaTek’s Wi-Fi MT7921 chipset. This chipset will also incorporate Wi-Fi 6 technology from MediaTek’s Filogic series. Upcoming premium LG OLED TVs and LG QNED TVs, set to launch in 2025, will support refresh rates of 120Hz or higher and will feature the BT ULL technology.
