Sinclair Broadcast Group, Korea Radio Promotion Association (RAPA), and CAST.ERA recently announced a strategic memorandum of understanding to collaborate on enhancing ATSC 3.0 services between Korea and the United States. The goal is to expand the data distribution as a service (DDaaS) platform globally using NextGen broadcast network technology.
The partnership aims to increase the value of broadcast spectrum for all broadcasters by providing a broadcast backbone for wireless IP data delivery. This would allow broadcasters to better serve their communities by enabling an IP connection. The DDaaS platform is a cloud-based local broadcasting management system that utilizes real-time datacasting technology.
Together, the three organizations have formed a Broadcasting Cloud Demonstration Consortium to jointly present an empirical service model at NAB 2024, the North American broadcasting technology exhibition.
