Himax, already a major supplier of display drivers and semiconductors, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Nexchip Semiconductor, a China-based semiconductor foundry, to supply integrated circuits for the automotive display market.
The deal was announced by Himax’s executive vice president Chen Ping-Po, who signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nexchip at the inauguration of Nexchip’s new factory in Hefei, China. The partnership will allow Himax to diversify its foundry supply chain and optimize costs, while expanding production capacity to meet growing demand for automotive displays. The companies said the collaboration highlights their focus on the surging automotive sector, especially in China, where demand is rising for high-resolution and touch-enabled displays in electric and autonomous vehicles.
Himax offers a wide range of automotive display technologies and is seen as a leading provider of solutions for smart cockpit displays. Chen stated that Nexchip has been a “crucial and trusted strategic partner for several years,” and that combining forces in automotive marks an important step in their relationship. The deal aligns with Himax’s strategy to strengthen its position in the automotive market through supply chain improvements and capacity expansion. Nexchip will provide manufacturing services to help Himax scale up production.
