According to local press reports, the Korean Intellectual Property Office had a meeting termed the ‘Intellectual Property System Improvement Conference.’ This meeting was organized to discuss improvements in the intellectual property system, particularly in relation to the display industry in Korea. The meeting took place in the conference room of the Korea Display Industry Association in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Major players in the display industry like Samsung Display, LG Display, and Jusung Engineering were present.
The Korean display industry is asking for a priority screening system for OLED technologies. This priority screening system would likely speed up the examination and possibly the approval of patents related to OLED technology. Officials from the display industry mentioned that the shift in their business focus towards OLEDs required a more streamlined process to protect their innovations.
The patent authorities, in turn, indicated their commitment by mentioning they have already hired 30 private semiconductor and display experts in March, and they have plans to recruit more. Things seem to be moving along nicely in Korea for all parties.
