Nanosys Achieves Quantum Dot Milestone: 1,000 Unique Display Products and 800 Patents

Nanosys Emissive QDs

The gist of it: one differentiator here is that Nanosys is doing a pretty good job of a focused PR campaign with some refreshing twists in approach, and is getting its brand associated as a technology leader for QD outside of the traditional industry press. It seems to be paying off for it given the shipment numbers.

Nanosys has reached a milestone, launching its 1,000th unique quantum dot display product since 2013. This is part of a concerted PR campaign to implant the phrase, 2023 is the year of quantum dots, in the minds of the industry. It might well be the year of quantum dots in some ways because manufacturers are going to look to differentiate and distance themselves from other OLED products. The most noteworthy aspect of Nanosys has achieved in its promotions is getting a CNET review and video of a factory visit, which stands apart from some of the more traditional, staid deliveries of factory visits from other vendors. In other words, Nanosys is being cool. Whether that translates into a pipeline of leads is something only the company can say.

As expected, Nanosys believes that the growth in QD displays will accelerate throughout 2023, leading to a rising S-curve of QD penetration in the TV space followed by notebooks and monitors. As for positioning, Nanosys has a strong tier-one customer base comprising all of the top 10 global television brands and four of the top five IT brands, including Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio, TCL, Hisense, Acer, Asus, and Phillips. It claims to have shipped 140 tons of QD materials, without knowing the details, it is still a significant volume and backs up its claim as a major player.
