ATSC Elevates Physical Layer to Candidate Status

The physical layer transmission system for ATSC 3.0 has been elevated to ‘Candidate Status’ by the Advanced Television Systems Committee. Field testing will begin now, in preparation for the standard’s finalisation, expected in 2016. ATSC president Mark Richer said, “This represents a major milestone, and we expect to see manufacturers developing prototypes that can test the more than a dozen interconnected core building-block elements of the Physical Layer”.
