Continental Claims OLED Mirrors Are Safer and Fuel-Efficient

Continental has demonstrated how cameras and screens can be used to replace a car’s exterior and interior mirrors. Three cameras were installed in a test vehicle in the USA, as well as two 12.3″ (1920 x 1080) OLED displays in place of a rear-view mirror; these showed the sides and rear of the vehicle. Continental says that its system has no blind spots and cannot be damaged by dirt, rock chips or weather. Wind resistance is minimised, as there are no external mirrors, and the cameras, which have an HDR function, do not show flare from bright sunlight. Continental did not list the source of the OLED displays, but has worked with Samsung before on flexible OLEDs.
