According to sources close to Sony, the company may announce an exit from the smartphone market at MWC this year.
Australia’s Smarthouse has been told that ‘a number of parties’, including TCL, have expressed an interest in licensing the rights to Sony smartphones.
CEO Kazuo Hirai recently said that he would not “rule out considering an exit strategy” for Sony’s mobile phone unit. He added that the firm would cease pursuing sales growth in areas such as smartphones, where cheaper rivals have affected its competitiveness.
