Samsung’s SE790C is a 34″ curved monitor, in the vein of similar models from Dell (U3415W, Display Monitor Vol 20 No 48) and LG (34UC97, Display Monitor Vol 21 No 36). Featuring a 3,000R curvature radius and 3440 x 1440 resolution, the unit is designed to match the curve of a human eye, so all parts of the screen are the same distance from the viewer.
TUV Rheinland has certified the SE790C for its colour presentation, colour uniformity, viewing angle, curved space and flicker-free operation. A 100mm height-adjustable stand and -2 deg to 20 deg tilt support more comfortable operation. Picture-in- and picture-by-picture functions enable the viewing of up to two sources at once. The monitor also boasts a game mode (correcting blurred images, enhancing colours and altering contrast ratio).
An LED backlight supplies 300 cd/m² of brightness. The VA panel provides 178 deg viewing angles, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio and 4ms (grey-to-grey) response time. DisplayPort, HDMI (x2) and USB 3.0 (x4) inputs are featured, as well as two 7W speakers.

We saw a similar monitor called the SD790C at IFA last year (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 36). While we haven’t heard any more about the unit since the show, the difference between them is mainly down to their panels: the SD790C used a PLS panel while the SE790C uses a VA type. (TA)
