Transparent displays can be used in multiple applications; for example, new product showcases or in-store advertising. BenQ has added four new displays to its transparent LCD range: the TL320F (which we saw at Gitex, in Display Monitor Vol 21 No 41), TL320C, TL500F and TL650F. These units (32″, 50″ and 65″) are flat screens that can be custom-built for specific scenarios.
Screen transparency can be adjusted as needed, to suit external light sources etc. The 32″ models are available in both flat screen and box designs, to hold products. Like BenQ’s other signage displays announced recently, all of the new TL-series products feature a 50,000-hour lifetime and rotational axis display; this means that they can be used in portrait mode without showing mura.
All displays have 250 cd/m² of brightness; a 60Hz refresh rate; 178 deg viewing angles; and 8-bit colour. They also have a 4,000:1 contrast ratio, excluding the TL320F (3,000:1); and feature HDMI ports.
The TL320F and TL320C have 1366 x 768 resolution and a 6.5ms response time. The ‘C’ model is differentiated from the other displays as, in addition to HDMI, it has VGA and USB inputs, as well as two 2W speakers. Both the TL500F and TL650F have 1920 x 1080 resolution and an 8ms response time.
BenQ has launched its transparent displays in the USA, but they will not arrive in Europe until January. Pricing has not yet been announced.
