What They Say
FlatPanelsHD reported a ‘transient’ press release that said that Kateeva was celebrating shipping a G8.5 inkjet printer ‘for high-volume production of QD-OLED displays to a leading manufacturer. Known as “Jarvis”, the tool will be used to print displays for 8K TVs and high-resolution monitors’. The press release was later removed but it confirmed that the IJP would be used for the colour conversion layer.
What We Think
The headline is intriguing but the QD layer is, as far as I am aware, the simplest active component in a QD-OLED display, so in my view, a bigger or different IJP is not going to bring 8K QD-OLEDs much closer. Given Samsung’s challenges in selling QD-OLEDs, I can see a lot more ‘lower hanging fruit’ than trying to go to 8K. (BR)
