Two of Japan’s three major mobile carriers have announced successful 8k trials. NTT Docomo, with Nokia, transported real-time 8k video over a 5G network. Video was stored on a server, compressed and transmitted to a base station over normal lines, then using 5G to special handsets. KDDI sent video through optical fibre, in tests with public broadcaster NHK. This can be used to show multiple 8k streams on a single display.
