80.7% CAGR for Headworn AR Revenues

So what did we find out? Our outlook continues to be best characterized as cautiously optimistic, especially when compared to several large research firms that turn attention to AR occasionally to publish eyepopping revenue estimates in the hundreds of billions of dollars. By comparison, we’re comfortably and confidently in the tens-of-billions range for aggregate headworn AR spending in outer years of this financial outlook.

Our Faith in AR

Taxonomy is a hard thing to nail down when it comes to AR/VR/XR. For the simple reason that most everything related to the subject matter gets overlaid with over-the-top sci-fi allusions. Or for the fact that we cannot quite agree on the taxonomy of AR wearables. You’re probably skeptical reading this data for those very reasons but, without diving too deep into the methodology of the report, it’s fair to say that, yeah, the AR market has all the potential to meet and beat these numbers. The authors make a compelling case for their estimates. And, if you choose to see AR as an extension of our existing fixation with mobile displays and permanent neck damage courtesy of smartphones., why not add AR to the pile and change our relationship with the screen, keep our heads up for a while? We’re not going to go back to less imagery and data when we can have more. That’s for sure.
